  • Counsel and advisor to domestic and foreign industries, importers and exporters on the full range of issues under Canadian customs and trade law.
  • Appointed as a panellist in the WTO anti-dumping dispute European Union – Anti-Dumping Measures on Imports of Certain Fatty Alcohols from Indonesia (DS442).
  • Provided counsel, assisted or advised in over 30 WTO disputes, including: appearing before WTO panels in ten proceedings; appearing before the Appellate Body in five appeals, including in the trilogy of appeals that established the legal benchmarks for technical regulations (US – Clove Cigarettes, US – COOL and US – Tuna II (Mexico)); appearing before arbitrators in two proceedings concerning the level of suspension of concessions under Article 22.6 of the DSU; and appearing before an arbitrator in a proceeding concerning the reasonable period of time for implementation under Article 21.3(c) of the DSU.
  • Counsel and advisor to government and private sector clients in numerous state-to-state disputes and binational panel proceedings, including Tariffs on Certain Agricultural Products, CDA-94-2008-01 (NAFTA); Flat Coated Steel, MEX-USA-1994-1904-01 (NAFTA), Cut-to-Length Plate (MEX-USA-1994-1904-02), Broom Corn Brooms, USA-MEX-1997-2008-01 (NAFTA); Cross-Border Trucking, USA-MEX-1998-2008-01 (NAFTA); Sugar, CDA-USA-1997-1904-01 (NAFTA); Gypsum Board, CDA-93-1904 (CUSFTA); Beer (CDA-USA-1991-1904-01); and Durum Wheat, CDA-USA-1992-1807-01 (CUSFTA).
  • Counsel and advisor to government and private sector clients in numerous disputes including: GAMI Investments, Inc. v. United Mexican States; Archer Daniels Midland Company & Tate & Lyle Ingredients Americas, Inc. v. United Mexican States; and Corn Products International, Inc. v. United Mexican States.
  • Counsel for domestic industry and exporter/importer clients in numerous Canadian anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations, including: Copper Rod, Laminate Flooring, Dishwashers, Machine Tufted Carpet, Flat HR Carbon and Alloy Steel Sheet and Strip, Carbon Steel Welded Pipe, Grain Corn, HR Carbon Steel Plate, Bicycles, Refined Sugar, Beer, Delicious Apples and Gypsum Board.
  • Advisor to the Government of Mexico on the NAFTA negotiations, including the negotiation of the environment and labour side agreements and related rules of procedure.
  • Advisor to governments and private sector stakeholders on the Uruguay Round of multilateral negotiations that led to the WTO and the Doha round of WTO negotiations.
  • Advisor on negotiation, implementation and/or compliance issues relating to a number of bilateral and plurilateral trade agreements, including: Canada-Chile, Canada-Israel, Canada-Costa Rica, Canada-Peru, Canada-European Free Trade Association, Canada-Colombia, Canada-Jordan, Canada-Panama, Canada-EU CETA, Canada-Central America, Canada-CARICOM, Canada-Dominican Republic, Canada-Ukraine, and Canada-Morocco.
  • Program Team Leader for the CETA Market Access Program for EU Businesses.
  • Advisor to the Canadian Council of Forest Industries on the Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations, specifically with respect to the definition of a “subsidy” under what ultimately became Articles 1 and 2 of the WTO Subsidies Agreement, and on the 1991-1992 challenge under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, 1947 (GATT 1947) of the initiation by the United States of a countervailing duty investigation on imports of softwood lumber from Canada (US – Softwood Lumber II).
  • Trade Policy Officer with the subsidies and trade remedies division in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, supporting implementation of the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement, including the bilateral subsidies and trade remedies working group.
