Michelle Folinas is an associate at Tereposky & DeRose LLP.  She assists with international trade matters, including Canadian anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations, WTO dispute settlement, economic sanctions, public procurement and customs matters.

Michelle completed her J.D. at the University of Ottawa. Prior to law school, Michelle obtained her B.A. from the University of Waterloo, where she specialized in legal studies and business, graduating with Distinction.

While at law school, Michelle represented the University of Ottawa at the 2021-2022 John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition in WTO law. She was also the Co-President of Elephant in the Room, a student-run club focussed on promoting mental health in the legal profession, and a Research Assistant with the Centre for Law, Technology and Society. Prior her articles, Michelle spent part of her final semester as a Law Student Intern with the Senate of Canada.

Canadian Anti-dumping and Countervailing Duty Investigations

  • Assists on the provision of advice relating to the domestic industry, foreign producers, importers and governments in Canadian anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations, re-investigations and expiry reviews before the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT).

International Trade Dispute Settlement under the WTO and Regional Trade Agreements

  • Assists on the provision of advice to government clients in WTO dispute settlement proceedings:
    • China – Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Duty Measures on Wine from Australia (DS602)

Economic Sanctions

  • Assists on the provision of advice relating to clients in applications for delisting, including under the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations and the Special Economic Measures (Belarus) Regulations.

Customs

  • Assisted on the provision of advice in an appeal before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal:
    • Sucro Can Sourcing LLC v. President of the Canada Border Services Agency, EA-2022-002 (CITT)
