His practice combines expertise in public international law with practical experience helping clients navigate complex legal, policy, and commercial challenges across global markets.

Benedict’s work spans investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS), international commercial arbitration, international trade and investment policy, ESG compliance, and cross-border dispute resolution. He has advised and represented clients in proceedings governed by the ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC, LCIA, AAA/ICDR, and ADRIC arbitration rules. His experience includes treaty interpretation, jurisdictional challenges, enforcement proceedings, strategic dispute avoidance, and investment treaty risk management.

A recognized authority in ESG and responsible business conduct, Benedict regularly advises public and private sector clients on sanctions, tariffs, supply chain due diligence, forced labour compliance, customs enforcement, and emerging business and human rights obligations. He has participated in trade and investment treaty negotiations on behalf of the United Kingdom and serves on the Legal Advisory Panel to the Government of Canada concerning the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act. Chambers Canada has recognized him as a leading practitioner in Business and Human Rights Law.

In addition to his international practice, Benedict has experience in commercial litigation, regulatory and public law matters, procurement disputes, conflict of laws, and arbitration-related court proceedings. He was a member of the counsel team that supported the Honourable Louise Arbour’s Independent Comprehensive Review of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence, contributing to one of Canada’s most significant public-sector governance reviews.

Before relocating to Canada in 2015, Benedict practised as a barrister in London, England, where he developed a strong foundation in advocacy and international dispute resolution.
